Interview with Antoinette Martsoukos 

The interview was conducted as part of the University of Baltimore Stories: 100th Anniversary Oral History Project, directed by the Special Collections and Archives department at the University of Baltimore's RLB Library. It was conducted via Zoom application by Bedell Terry on June 29th, 2021. The interviewee is Antoinette Martsoukos, an alumna of The University of Baltimore, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She is a native of Baltimore and has worked at the University of Baltimore for 14 years. Currently, she manages advisors for the College of Arts and Science, in addition to being an adjunct professor in Ethics.

During this interview, Ms. Martsoukos discussed her experience studying and working at the university. As a member of the University Diversity Committee, she explained its role and purpose. Her remarks also covered the challenges faced by the university as it transitioned from an upper level to a four year institution.

Joseph Wood

Interview with Joseph Wood

The interview was conducted as part of the University of Baltimore Stories: 100th Anniversary Oral History Project, directed by the Special Collections and Archives department at the University of Baltimore's RLB Library. It was conducted via Zoom application by Bedell Terry on October 27, 2021. The interviewee is Joseph Wood, Provost and Professor Emeritus at The University of Baltimore, 2009-2018. Joe Wood served as Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at The University of Baltimore from 2009 to 2016. Until retiring in 2018, he taught in the School of Public and International Affairs and Legal, Ethical and Historical Studies.

During this interview, Dr. Wood discussed the challenges and accomplishments he faced during his tenure as provost. One of his accomplishments was dividing the Yale Gordon College of Liberal Arts into two parts and creating the College of Public Affairs. Additionally, he talked about the Divided Baltimore course that he created and the positive impact it had on his time at the University of Baltimore. Furthermore, he talked about his experiences teaching at UB after leaving his position as provost and taking courses on landscape and community history, as well as courses on race and place and American government.

Cindy Schuster

Interview with Cindy Schuster

The interview was conducted as part of the University of Baltimore Stories: 100th Anniversary Oral History Project, directed by the Special Collections and Archives department at the University of Baltimore's RLB Library. It was conducted via Zoom application by  Courtney Trang on October 25, 2023. The interviewee is Cindy Schuster, Director of the Office of Shared Services.


Through this interview, she shares her journey at the University of Baltimore, starting as a student in 1985 and progressing through various roles to her current position. Schuster reflects on her upbringing in Baltimore City, her decision to attend the University of Baltimore as a first-generation college student, and her career progression at the university. She reminisces about the early days of the internet and technology on campus, the challenges and growth she witnessed, including the transition from an upper division to a full undergraduate program, and the creation of the School of Law. Schuster also highlights the importance of community at the University of Baltimore and the impact of its educational programs on students' lives.

Ken Turner

Interview with Ken Turner

The interview was conducted as part of the University of Baltimore Stories: 100th Anniversary Oral History Project, directed by the Special Collections and Archives department at the University of Baltimore's RLB Library. It was conducted via Zoom application by Bedell Terry on March 20, 2024. The interviewee is Ken Turner a dedicated staff member and custodial manager at the University of Baltimore.

Born and raised in Baltimore City, Turner's journey pursuits led him to the University of Baltimore in 1982, where he studied Business Administration. This educational foundation laid the groundwork for his future endeavors and eventual employment at the university in 2006.

Turner has witnessed and contributed to the campus's growth and transformation, reflecting on the changes in building infrastructure, student engagement, and the university's response to the challenges of the pandemic. As custodial manager, Turner's responsibilities have expanded over the years, especially in adapting to new health and safety protocols during the pandemic. Celebrating 18 years of service, Turner's narrative underscores the importance of relationships, adaptability, and community engagement.
